We held the fundraiser and thanks to our wonderful customers and dedicated staff, the event was a great success, and we raised more than $5,000 for the Wounded Warrior Foundation!

Soldiers who come home in wheel chairs, or with artificial limbs have
to re-learn the basics of how to live. Not only must they struggle with
physical, mental and emotional obstacles, but their homes must also be
adapted to accommodate their new disabilities.
Put yourself in their shoes.
Try reaching for your coffee mug in the
morning whenyou
can’t
stand up. Try getting upstairs to the bedroom from a wheel chair or on
crutches. Try dialing your cell phone with your toes. Try holding your
baby without arms. Try reading a book when you cannot see. Try
sleeping without nightmares when you cannot forget!

Heaven Sent Dessert owner, Lachlan
Oliver, served as a medic in the
US Air Force and has seen what war is like
first hand; he served tours in Kosovo, Afghanistan and Iraq, and many
other places. His brother, Sean Davis,
is a pilot and flew Blackhawk helicopters during his two years in Iraq
with the US Army. The bonds they made with
their fellow soldiers, the memories of their comrades who were killed,
their experiences with war will always be with them. This is why Heaven
Sent Desserts is reaching out to the families of our fallen and wounded
soldiers, our amputee soldiers, and their families.
The money we raise on September 28, 29 and 30, 2007, will go to help our heroes and their families pay things like:
Ramps for wheel chairs
Lowering of counters and cupboards in the kitchen
Bathrooms with better access and support rails
Education for the children
Travel expenses so families can be together.

Most of our soldiers are young, and may not have established a career
in civilian life. They may not have completed or attended college. They
may have little or no savings or even a job to return to. As their families
are dependent on them financially, and with very little help available,
this is often a dual catastrophe: the painful adjustments that must be
made, and the economic hardships that must be faced.
Until all the needs of our Wounded Warriors are met by our government: medical care, mental and physical therapies, medicines, prostheses, restructuring of homes, bills, rents or mortgages that need to be paid during this time, education for the children and much more… Until then, we must help and this is why Heaven Sent is involved now.
The more desserts, cakes, cookies, coffee, tea, drinks, special cakes
we sell during these days, the more we will be able to donate to aid those
who served and are in need. We also hope that you will come and meet some
of these young men and women and let them know they are appreciated. Please
join us in support on September 28, 29, 30 (Friday - Sunday) to show that you care!
A special thank you to Timothy Greenfield-Sanders, photographer, for allowing
us to show his beautiful photographs. Please
visit his website and read about the upcoming documentary "Home from
Iraq".
